Uttara Kannada celebrates Holi with gaiety, fanfare
People splash colours on each other in Karwar; Revellers have fun as they take a dip in the Arabian Sea after Holi celebrations on Tuesday
KARWAR: Holi the festival of colour was celebrated with much gaiety in Uttara Kannada except in Yellapur where Devi Jatra concluded last week. People splashed each other in colours in different parts of the district. The festival went on smoothly, without incidents.
On Monday night, groups of people in different localities in different places burned the idols of Rathi and Manmatha and the mythological god Kama.
In places like Gokarna, foreigners also joined the Holi revellers. Thousands of youths enjoyed the sprinkling of colours on Tuesday. Wearing masks, youths rode around on bikes. In Karwar, youths danced to the tunes of film songs and went about the city splashing colours. Some inconveniences were experienced by office workers and students.
On Tuesday afternoon, thousands of people bathed in the Arabian Sea in Karwar . The beach was packed with people with vibrant colours on their faces. Heavy security arrangements were made by the police all over the district to avoid any untoward incident.
