With the opening of the Ashram flyover, there is some relief for motorists. However, the bad news is that the Chirag Dilli flyover is being shut down for repairs from Sunday, March 12. The extension joints of the flyover have been due for repair for over a year. NEW DELHI: With the opening of the Ashram flyover, there is some relief for motorists. However, the bad news is that the Chirag Dilli flyover is being shut down for repairs from Sunday, March 12. The extension joints of the flyover have been due for repair for over a year. The repair will take around 50 days in two phases, with the two carriageways being shut alternately for around 25 days each.

SS Yadav, special commissioner of police (Traffic), said on Tuesday, "The repair of the carriageway from Nehru Place to IIT Delhi will be taken up first and then of the opposite carriage. The closure of the carriageways is likely to cause inconvenience to the public. Motorists heading to the railway stations, airport, hospitals, etc., are advised to keep this in mind and plan optional routes to avoid delays."
TOI had reported in January that the traffic police had planned some ground-level changes for the smooth movement of vehicles. These will be implemented now. Commuters travelling from Nehru Place towards Panchsheel will be allowed to move straight towards Panchsheel or turn left towards Khanpur. Similarly, when the other carriageway is shut down, motorists coming from Panchsheel can go straight or turn left for Moolchand and right for Khanpur.
Delhi Traffic Police has advised motorists going to Dhaula Kuan, AIIMS, Defence Colony and other areas to take a right turn under the Nehru Place flyover and use Lala Lajpat Rai Marg upto Moolchand Hospital flyover. Those driving to Greater Kailash and Nehru Place from IIT Delhi on Outer Ring Road are advised to take a left turn at Panchsheel flyover to access Ring Road and take a right turn under Moolchand Flyover to get to Lala Lajpat Rai Marg.
Vehicles headed to Greater Kailash and Nehru Place from IIT Delhi on Outer Ring Road are to take a left turn at IIT flyover towards Aurobindo Marg to reach Ring Road and then take a right turn under Moolchand Flyover to Lala Lajpat Rai Marg.
"The movement of heavy and commercial vehicles on Outer Ring Road towards Chirag Delhi may be restricted when required," added Yadav.
