He says women can be the effective ambassadors of Fit India Movement
Panaji: Stating that this year Swayampurna Goa 2.0 will focus on skilling, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday called upon the women in the state to take advantage of the same and upgrade their skills, as well as take up courses of their choice, if they were unable to do so for any reason in the past.
Addressing the International Women’s Day function organised by the Bharatiya Janata Mahila Morcha in the city, the Chief Minister said that health should be the priority of every woman, and they should ensure that the health of their family is retained through good food and proper diet. “Women can be the effective ambassadors of Fit India Movement,” he added, pointing out, “In turn, they can increase the Happiness Index of their family and the society.”
Speaking further, Sawant said that the Prime Minister has given very important gifts to the women of the country through schemes like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and toilet construction, besides enactment of law against triple talaaq and provision of sanitary pads at affordable rates. “In order to expand the Bharatiya Janata Party, we need to take various government schemes to the women,” he added.
The Chief Minister also informed that the state government through its Human Resource Development Corporation has provided jobs to a large number of women in hospitality and security sectors, at a decent salary. “Women can help in creating the Nav Bharat of Modi’s dreams,” he maintained.
Sawant also said that there is a need to educate women so that they don’t discriminate against other women. “Sexual assaults against the women are mostly caused due to lack of proper upbringing of the boys,” he observed, adding that parents and elders should teach boys to respect women.
Earlier, the Chief Minister along with the state BJP president Sadanand Tanawade gave away Sushma Swaraj Awards to the women achievers in various fields. They included Dr. Akshaya Pawaskar (medicine), Sweta Chari (founder, Tarang Foundation), Stri Garjana-Dhol Pathak (culture), Dr. Neena Panandikar (education), Poonam Sambhaji (medicine), Ratnamala Parab (entrepreneur), Sawani Shetye Malik (archaeology), Shakuntala Bharne (music), Hemashri Gadekar (social work), Saraswati Velip (artisan), Danuska da Gama (sports), Sapana Samant (journalism), Riddhi and Siddhi Mapxencar (fashion) and Gunjan Prabhu Narvekar (mountaineering).
Tanawade said that the real strength of the BJP is its women supporters. Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo said that on the International Women’s Day, the women celebrate what they have achieved in their social, cultural and political life.
In-charge of the Bharatiya Janata Mahila Morcha Sulakshana Sawant said that there is a need for good policy-making for bringing equality among men and women. She also supported implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in the entire country.
