CHENNAI: The
Tamil Nadu government has booked 106 people for smuggling and black marketing food and other essentials, which were supposed to be distributed to the public through ration shops.
The state civil supplies and consumer protection department with the help of civil supplies CID conducted raids across the state between February 20 and 26 and seized 669 quintals of rice, 137 of LPG cylinders, 30 kg of wheat and 585 litres of kerosene. The total value of these products was around Rs 5.2 lakh, said an official release.
All the 106 people were booked under the Prevention of Black Marketing and Maintenance of Supplies of Essential Commodities Act, 1980. Two of them were arrested.
