MYSURU: Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday stated that the guarantee card issued by the Congress, which includes a promise to provide 200 units free electricity, is bogus and alleged that the party used the Dalits and backwards classes as vote banks all these years.
"They remember the SCs, STs, and others only at the time of election. After the poll result, they forgot everyone," he said. Speaking after the distribution of benefits to beneficiaries of various schemes of the state and central governments at Maharaja's College Grounds here, he said that the guarantee card has no sanctity.
"We have already implemented various schemes under which these guarantees are covered. Which family uses 200 units per month? This guarantee card is bogus," he said.
Mimicking the former CM Siddaramaiah's speech, he hit out at him questioning why he was not able to increase the reservation for SCs and STs in the state when he was in power. "We kept our word and increased the reservation for both these disadvantaged sections of the society," he said.
"We are designing schemes keeping in mind the real needs of the people with a lot of sensitivity. For example, we are now giving monthly financial support for the acid attack survivors as they are deserted by their families and society. Similarly, we are supporting through the cochlear implant scheme. Opposition leaders don't understand this," he criticized.
"In Mysuru, over 18 lakh people directly benefited from the various schemes of the state and central governments. Across the state over 5.5 crore people got the benefits. Totally benefits worth over Rs 42,000 crore has been distributed. The Congress is seeking votes by offering illusions, but we are approaching you with our records," he said.
"The Congress is spreading lies. It is known to misguide people. The party has no other aim except coming to power," he said. He also explained how the Congress leaders are spreading false information about the Anna Bhagya scheme.
Bommai stated that India was able to defeat Covid fast because of the interventions of the central government. District minister ST Somashekar said the government is working towards the welfare of one and all.
BJP MLAs L Nagendra, SA Ramadas, B Harshavardhana were present. The district administration arranged KSRTC bus service to ferry the beneficiaries of various government schemes to the event.
