LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party is likely to contest the prestigious Amethi seat in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections next year. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav gave a clear indication on Monday that this time his party is likely to field its candidate in the constituency which it used to leave for the Gandhi family, even without any tie-up with Congress.
The SP chief who was in Amethi on Sunday to attend the wedding of party leader Gayatri Prajapati's daughter, tweeted a day later: ""I was saddened to see the plight of poor women in Amethi. VIPs have been winning, or losing this seat, yet the condition is like this here so what to say about the rest of the state," he tweeted.
A khilesh also tweeted two photographs of women sitting on the ground during his visit. “Next time Amethi will not elect big people but people with big hearts. SP takes a pledge to eradicate poverty from Amethi,” he added. His clear indication was towards Gandhi family which had been winning the seat till 2019 LS polls, when BJP’s Smriti Irani defeated Rahul Gandhi.
Earlier on Sunday while talking to reporters in Amethi, he also hit out at Irani, calling upon the people to defeat her next time. “Amethi’s BJP MP is a cylinder wali MP’. Once she used to protest with a gas cylinder on her head (against the previous UPA government) while protesting against price rise then. Now when the cylinder’s prices are soaring, she is keeping mum. I appeal to the people to defeat the ‘cylinder wali MP’ this time,” he said.
