BOKARO: A huge stock of illegally stocked liquor bottles was seized ahead of the Holi festival on Sunday night from the Petarwar block. This was the second such incident in the past three days when massive stocks of illegal and spurious liquor were recovered.
The team of the excise department headed by Bermo subdivisional officer (SDO) Anant Kumar, raided and seized 70 cartons of illegal liquor from Kumhar Tola under Bundu panchayat of Petarwar.
The Bermo SDO said, “Acting on a tip-off that the liquor mafia is smuggling liquor in the area and storing it in warehouses, we conducted a raid and about 70 boxes of illegal Indian-made foreign liquor brands were seized from a warehouse in Kumhar Tola. “Action is being taken up in this regard,” Kumar said.
On March 3, a team from the district excise department conducted a raid late at night in a spurious liquor factory running in an underground bunker in the Lower Balrampur area under the Jaridih police station of Bokaro. Three people were arrested on the spot with 350 boxes of different brands of whiskey which are produced in the illegal factory. A Mahindra Bolero used for delivery purposes was also seized from the spot.
