Civic workers want permanent jobs; mob mayor and MCC chief Lakshmikanth Reddy in Mysuru
Civic workers on Monday staged a dharna in front of the MCC in the city
MYSURU: Seeking to regularise their services, 1,510 pourakarmikas who are working on direct payment basis on Monday mobbed mayor Shivakumar and MCC commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy at the city corporation office.
The workers are staging dharna in front of the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) for three days and have not collected garbage from houses causing inconvenience to the public. Following assurance from the MCC authorities, the pourakarmikas withdrew their strike.
The MCC decided to review the 170 pourakarmikas’ selection list and assured that the issue will be discussed with chief minister Basavaraj Bommai and district minister ST Somashekar on Tuesday. According to the agitators, recently 170 pourakarmikas were regularised among them. Of these 170 selected pourakarmikas, many have submitted fake documents. “A few families got upper hand in the selection process. Even though we have been serving the MCC for decades, our service is not considered,” they alleged.
They demanded that the selection list should be cancelled immediately. We want regularisation of services of all the workers, they said.
Meeting with CM
Meanwhile, the MCC decided to approach the state government over the demands of the workers. On Tuesday, I will speak to the CM and the minister in this regard, said mayor M Shivakumar.
MCC decided to hold back the selection list of 170 pourakarmikas. It will be reviewed before the announcement of the final list, he said. “The pourakarmikas wanted to discuss their issues with us. So, they entered the meeting hall. Later I spoke to them separately. We understand their concerns,” he said.
