Kotkapura police firing case: Badals, ex-DGP Saini asked to appear in court on Mar 23

Bathinda: Taking up the challan presented by the SIT probing the October 2015 Kotkapura police firing case, the district court here on Monday issued a notice to accused former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, former home minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, former DGP (director general of police) Sumedh Singh Saini and other police officials, asking them to appear before it on March 23. The court adjourned the matter to the next date of hearing.
The SIT had presented a 7,000-page challan on February 24. The SIT named Badals and a number of police officials as accused in the case. The role of everyone has been described in the challan. The court had then fixed the hearing for March 6.
In the meanwhile, the SIT has questioned a number of former officials, including Additional director general of police (ADGP) Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota, former ADGP Rohit Chaudhary, former DIG (deputy inspector general) Ranbir Singh Khattra and former CM Badal’s secretary Gagandeep Singh Brar. TNN
