Hubballi: South Western Railway has augmented 229 coaches on a permanent basis from April 2022 to February 2023, which is the highest augmentation during the last three years. These coaches have been augmented on a permanent basis on 104 pairs of trains . As many as 210 coaches were temporarily augmented from April 2022 to January 2023 to cater to an extra rush of passengers. This is 21.38% higher than the previous year.
SWR general manager Sanjeev Kishore said permanent and temporarily augmented coaches were to the passengers’ benefit. “Additional coaches help ease the rush during peak hours and provide a comfortable journey experience to the passengers. Permanent augmentation of existing trains with additional coaches will facilitate the clearing of wait-listed passengers and running of special trains on popular routes. This caters to the needs of passengers to reach their destinations comfortably and ease overcrowding during peak hours in the trains,” he added.
Principal chief operations manager Hari Shankar Verma said SWR has responded pro-actively to the passenger demand by augmenting coaches on various trains. The demand in various trains and routes is being monitored regularly to serve our esteemed passengers. TNN
