2 Holi revellers drown in Mormugao
Vasco: Holi celebrations ended in a tragedy in Mormugao taluka after two persons, including an 18-year-old, lost their lives in two different incidents on Tuesday. After playing Holi, both the persons had ventured into the sea within the jurisdiction of Mormugao police station.
In the first incident, Shushrut Satardekar from Headland-Sada had gone into the water at the Japanese beach.
“The incident occurred between 2.30pm and 3pm. When five of his friends failed to locate Shushrut, they informed the lifeguards at the beach,” Mormugao PI Raghoba Kamat said.
“The lifeguards found Shushrut struggling for breath under heavy currents. He was brought to the shore in an unconscious state. He responded to the first aid and was shifted to Chicalim sub-district hospital, but was pronounced dead on admission,” Mormugao PI Raghoba Kamat told TOI.
The second drowning was reported at Baina beach at around 3pm, wherein an unknown person aged about 40-year-old was found in an unconscious state by the lifeguards on duty.
“The lifeguards deployed at Baina beach spotted the person. He was brought ashore and was provided with first aid. He was shifted to Chicalim sub-district hospital, but was declared dead by the doctors on duty,” Kamat said.
Mormugao police have registered cases of unnatural death. Both the bodies have been shifted for postmortem. Police are trying to identify the deceased who drowned at Baina beach.
