The race for Port Huron High's new mascot is down to 2

A second round of voting to replace Port Huron High School's mascot will be held this week.
After tallying more than 800 votes from the community, students and staff, Port Huron High School is still looking for its new mascot. None of the four finalists received a majority of votes. However, the Panthers and Red Hawks were clear favorites, according to the district. Vote totals have not been released.
A run-off election between the Panthers and Red Hawks will be held to determine a clear winner.
In a press release, Superintendent Theo Kerhoulas said he is proud of the Port Huron High School staff and student body.
“They have embraced this process from the beginning and made it exciting for everyone involved,” he said.
The Port Huron community will once again be able to cast their votes for the new mascot. Community voting will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday through Friday at the Early Childhood Center and Port Huron High School. Additionally, votes can also be cast from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday at Port Huron High School.
Identification will be required for community voters. Students and staff will be voting while in school.
In November, the Port Huron Board of Education unanimously voted to retire the Little Chiefs, Little Reds and Big Reds mascots from Michigamme Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary and Port Huron High School respectively.
The board determined the rebrand for all three schools would cost approximately $230,000.
