RANCHI: The Jharkhand government on Monday termed the recent media reports about attacks and murders of migrant workers from Hindi-speaking belts, including Jharkhand, working in Tamil Nadu as false.
In an official statement the administration said a team from Jharkhand had been dispatched to the southern state to take a stock of the situation. However, the team found that nothing of that sort happened.
“Following the viral social media reports about the attacks recently, the state labour department sent a team to trace and rescue the victims. However, upon interacting with hundreds of migrant workers from the state and living in different towns and cities of Tamil Nadu, it was found that the reports were false.
All workers told the team that they are safe and are also receiving their salaries on time,” the IRPD statement reads. It asked the media outlets to refrain from falling prey to social media reports without proper verification.
The labour department rolled out state migrant workers' helpline numbers as a precaution — 9470132591/ 9431336427/ 9431336398/ 9431336472 and 9431336432.
