RAMGARH: An FIR has been registered against 17 Ajsu-P functionaries, including a deputy mukhiya and a zilla parishad member, apart from 100 unknown persons, for allegedly disturbing the execution of government work at a police station.
The NDA constituent, however, said the filing of the FIR with the Gola police station on Saturday last week was a desperate move after the defeat of the Congress candidate in the Ramgarh bypoll.
The incident happened when Ajsu-P activists in Gola were celebrating the bypoll victory of the party candidate, Sunita Chaudhary, when a woman filed a written complaint with the Gola police station, alleging she was eve-teased by some youths in the celebrations. Acting on her complaint, the police detained four youths, triggering a protest from the Ajsu-P workers at the police station.
“Now, we have registered an FIR against 17 persons and 100 unknown persons who disturbed our government duties at the police station,” a police officer said.
Describing the FIR as a desperate move, Ajsu-P leader and Gola zilla parishad member Jaleshwar Mahto said being public representatives, he along with the deputy mukhiya, Ajay Ojha, visited the police station to get information about the eve-teasing complaint but police named him in the FIR, charging him with disturbing government work.
“We have not interfered in the normal police work and the FIR was a move to restrict public representatives from visiting police stations,” he said.
