GURGAON: Two co-owners of Zorro nightclub in Sector 29 and their friend were allegedly thrashed by several people, including bouncers of another nightclub, early on Sunday morning on the suspicion that they were poaching employees.
Police said on Monday an FIR has been registered and they are trying to identify the accused. Zorro owners Pankaj Sachdeva and Ashwani Sharma, and their friend Navin Malik - all in their 30s - said a regular customer Saksham came to the Sector 29 club and asked the three of them to go to a party at The Big Shot club located in Centre Mall on MG Road. The group was dancing when some bouncers came towards them and asked them to leave after clearing the bill. "As we paid the bill of around Rs 10,000, some bouncers suddenly started assaulting us. They threw us out of the club, and thrashed us outside too. They also damaged our vehicles," Sachdeva, a resident of Dwarka in Delhi, told police.
Sachdeva said the bouncers assaulted the three while they were talking to some of the female staff of The Big Shot. "We know the staff as they had worked in our club earlier. We do not have any business rivalry as we operate from different areas. During the scuffle, some attackers also robbed us of Rs 1.9 lakh," Sachdeva alleged. The FIR in the case does not mention theft.
Sharma, who lives in Sector 69 of Gurgaon, also said the assailants hit them with sticks and iron rods. The three of them were admitted to a private hospital in the city with injuries to their neck, chest and back, he said.
Malik said the trio had requested the bouncers to let them go, but to no avail.
"We ran towards the ground floor but the bouncers caught hold of us and assaulted us. The entire incident has been captured on CCTV footage, in which the bouncers are seen hitting us with bats and rods," Malik, a businessman, said. The Big Shot owner Devendra Kumar said Sachdeva and Sharma visit the MG Road club some times and the scuffle was "minor".
"They were having a party and they were trying to get friendly with the women staff. The women staff later told us that they are trying to poach employees. We asked them to leave but they started fighting with us, which led to a minor scuffle. We immediately informed police about the matter," Kumar said.
According to cops, they got a call about the incident from the hospital where the trio was getting medical treatment from. "Teams have been formed to nab the accused. We have identified one of the accused as Saksham and procured CCTV footage. Others will be arrested soon," said SHO Pawan Kumar, Sector 29 police station. Cops said they are still trying to ascertain what Saksham's role was and how he is involved. The accused have been booked under IPC sections 323 (assault), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention).
