CHANDRAPUR: Industrialists in Chandrapur, under the banner of Federation of Industries Association, Vidarbha (FIAV), staged a protest against the proposed hike of over 37% in the power tariff for the industries in the state. Later, a delegation of the industrialists led by FIAV president Madhusudan Roongta submitted a memorandum at the zone office of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL).
Roongta said that Chandrapur is a major power producing district and bears the brunt of all types of pollution and temperature rise due to generation of approximately 6,000 MW of power. “The micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) in the district are facing losses since the Covid pandemic and are running on special funds provided by banks during the pandemic period. At present no industry is in position to pay the proposed hiked rates of electricity,” he explained.
