4 new medical colleges to come up in Punjab

Chandigarh: Bringing good news to the medical aspirants in the state, the Punjab government is set to boost its medical education sector by confirming that four new medical colleges will be set up at different locations across the state.

These four new medical colleges will be set up at Mastuana Sahib (Sangrur), Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur and Malerkotla.

The announcement was made by Governor Banwarilal Purohit on the opening day of the Budget session on March 3.

While addressing several initiatives for other sectors, Purohit also spoke about the development of medical education and the health sector in the state. He said that the four medical colleges would be established soon.

In addition, Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur institutes would be developed with the assistance of the Centre while the college in Malerkotla would be set up under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram.

Moreover, the Mastuana Sahib medical college will be established with 100 MBBS seats. In fact, there has been an substantial in medical seats at Government Medical College, Amritsar, and Government Medical College, Patiala with an increase from 150 to 200.

As per a media report in The Tribune, Purohit said 504 Aam Aadmi Clinics had been opened to provide quality health services to the masses and Punjab had 99.24 per cent institutional deliveries as per the Health Management Information System data.
