Invest India, a government website, states that the Mettupalayam Ooty Nilgiri passenger train is India's slowest train which runs at a speed of 10kmph, 16 times slower than the country's fastest train.
IRCTC states that during its 46-km journey, the train crosses over 100 bridges and passes through numerous tunnels.
The train ride is adorned with breathtaking views of rocky terrain, ravines, tea plantations, and densely forested hills, with the most magnificent scenery located along the Mettupalayam to Coonoor stretch.
According to IRCTC, the train leaves from Mettupalayam at 7.10am and reaches Ooty at 12pm. The return journey of the train commences from Ooty at 2pm and arrives at Mettupalayam at 5.35pm.
The train offers both first class and second class seating options, with first class seats being cushioned and less in number than second class seats.
According to UNESCO, the railway utilized advanced technology of its time, as it traversed an elevation range of 326 meters to 2,203 meters.
