With an aim to have an eco-friendly Holi celebration free from toxic chemicals, young students of Keerti Vidyalaya School have prepared organic colour using corn flour and juices which are non-toxic and
eco-friendly.
Under the guidance of management of the Keerti Vidyalaya-Siolim, headmaster and school teachers, young students have joined hands and prepared eco-friendly colours to make this Holi chemicals-free for the students as well as for villagers of Siolim among whom the eco-friendly colours were distributed.
The school students have used corn flour and added juices of beetroot to make pink colour, spinach juice to make green and peach colour, turmeric solution to make yellow colour and similarly others and mixed them well until finished Holi colours are ready.
Headmaster of the institution Sudesh D. Kochrekar said, “We have taken initiative to prepare organic colour using beetroot, green coriander powder, moringa, turmeric, corn flour, beans to prepare these colours which are toxins-free. Even our samples were submitted to the Goa Biodiversity boards and the same has been approved.”
He further urged people to use organic colours and not to use
chemical colours.
“Through these initiatives, our students have got skill-based training and can be independent and will also help in reducing pollution,” added
the headmaster.
One of the teachers Pooja Vadkar said, “Through our school we are imparting skill-based activities to students wherein we have taught them how to prepare organic colours using natural ingredients so that they are eco-friendly.”
Expressing happiness over preparing colour, one of the students Vinayak Govekar said, “We have prepared Holi colour which can be used by everyone and it is not harmful.”
School manager Paramanad Mandrekar said, “We have prepared these colours which will go to every house and can be used by people. Through this initiative, students can earn and be independent and through children even their family will learn about organic colour and how to protect our environment.”
