COIMBATORE: A fact-finding team from
Bihar, led by secretary of the rural department D Balamurugan, expressed their satisfaction over the measures taken by the Tamil Nadu
government for the safety and security of guest workers in Tirupur.
The team held talks with representatives of various associations and trade unions at the Tirupur collectorate on Sunday. Later, they held discussions with government officials as well.
Addressing a news conference, Balamurugan said panic gripped here after fake videos of guest workers being assaulted were spread on social media. The Tamil Nadu government swiftly acted against those who had spread the rumours.
"The Tirupur district administration and police administration have met guest workers. They have created a special cell to help the guest workers. FIRs were also registered against those who spread rumours through fake videos. The district administration has been taking confidence-building measures. There is no panic among guest workers now," said Balamurugan.
He said the team would meet workers from Bihar, working in various industrial sectors in Tirupur. "If we receive any message from them, we will pass it on to the district administration. We are satisfied with the actions taken by the Tamil Nadu government," Balamurugan said. Tirupur district superintendent of police G Shashank Sai said the district cybercrime police had registered cases against a YouTube channel, a Facebook account holder and a Twitter account holder.
"We have sent a report to Twitter, and the fake video post was removed from the account. We have sent a report to the meta platforms and YouTube to remove the posts. The bank account of a Youtuber was frozen after we sent a report," Shashank Sai said.
Later, the team comprising inspector general of police Kannan, superintendent of police Santhosh Kumar and labour department commissioner Alok Kumar visited Peacock Apparels at Arulpuram near Palladam, Poppys Knitwear Private Limited at MP Nagar in Tirupur and Netaji Apparel Park at Eetiveerampalayam in Tirupur. They interacted with guest workers at these units.
