Ashram flyover inaugurated: Who should use, who should not

After the inauguration of the Ashram flyover, motorists will be able to avoid three traffic lights between Ashram Chowk and DND, easing the congestion while travelling from the DND loop to the Ashram intersection.

The Ashram-DND flyover extension was inaugurated by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today. Delhi traffic police said that the flyover will be open for commuters from 5 pm. The Ashram flyover was closed for about two months to integrate the DND extension with the main flyover. Following the reopening of the flyover, commuting between Delhi and Noida will become hassle-free.

"Congratulations Delhi. New part of Ashram flyover is ready and it's open from today," chief minister Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi. The project was supposed to be inaugurated on February 28, but was postponed. The Ashram flyover is one of the busiest sections in the city.

After the inauguration of the Ashram flyover, motorists will be able to avoid three traffic lights between Ashram Chowk and DND, easing the congestion while travelling from the DND loop to the Ashram intersection. The construction work of the flyover extension started in June 2020.The total cost of the project is Rs 128.25 crore while the total length of the flyover including the ramp is 1,425 metres.

In a traffic advisory, the Delhi Traffic Police said that only light vehicles coming from the DND and going towards Gurugram, Chirag Delhi, Kalkaji, Khanpur, Greater Kailash, Saket, AIIMS, INA and Safdarjung are advised to take the Ashram Flyover instead of the Barapulla Flyover.

Heavy vehicles such as buses, trucks, etc. still not allowed on both carriageway of Ashram Flyover till further information. Commuters coming from Sarai Kale Khan are advised not to use the Ashram Flyover, the advisory added.

Light vehicles coming from Gurugram, Chirag Delhi, Kalkaji, Khanpur, Greater Kailash, Saket, AIlMS, INA, Safdarjung and Dhaula Kuan sides & going towards Sarai Kale Khan, Gaziabad, DND, Noida, & Trans-Yamuna areas are advised to take the Ashram Flyover instead of Barapulla Flyover.

Commuters coming from Sarai Kale Khan are advised not to use the Ashram Flyover. They may plan their journey as usual.
