JAIPUR: A 38-year-old woman is undergoing treatment at SMS Hospital for the past nine days after someone allegedly poured an acid into her mouth during a family dispute.
Police said Sita Devi was attacked on February 24 and rushed to the hospital the same day. Her daughter lodged an FIR at Sanganer Sadar police station on Friday, naming five people.
All the accused are relatives of the woman, including her husband, Bhagwan Das, said a police official.
As per the FIR, Devi's husband first beat her up in an inebriated condition. During the ensuing scuffle, one of the accused poured an acid into her mouth, it said.
Devi lived with her husband and children in Baxawala locality on Tonk Road near Sanganer.
Police have not been able to record her statements yet because of her unstable medical condition, said the official.
"We are investigating the case. A preliminary probe has indicated that a family dispute was behind the attack on the woman," he said, adding that all the accused would be interrogated soon.
