LUCKNOW: The first rake of newly designed metro train was unloaded at Agra Metro Rail Depot on Monday.
Built in Savli of Gujarat, the rake was brought via road to Agra, and unveiled by UPMRC managing director Sushil Kumar.
Kumar said, “There will be a total of 28 trains for Agra Metro and six trains for the priority corridor, initially. Painted in Yellow colour, coaches are equipped with ultra modern technology and seamless design.”
Total 974 passengers can travel at a time in the rake of three coaches at the speed of 80 kmph, however train can achieve 90 kmph as its top speed.
All the metro train coaches are equipped with regenerative breaking system, and will save upto 35 percent energy. The coaches are also fitted with carbon dioxide based sensors which saves energy. With the increasing load of passenger inside the coach, the CO2 based sensors provides an ambient temperature.

The trains will be managed from Agra Metro depot, and will be operated in automated CBTC mode (Comminication Based Train Control) making the train operations absolutely safe and efficient. Metro trains will get power from third rail i.e. third rail running parallel to the tracks, so it will not require setup of poles and wires and infrastructure will look better and beautiful.
Further for specially abled passengers, the first and last coach of the train will have seperate space for the wheelchair. There will be a 'Long Stop Request' button near the wheelchair location, by pressing which passengers can inform the train operator to keep the door open for longer time so that they can alight from the train comfortably.
For safety, the metro coaches will have fire extinguishers and smoke detectors. The coaches have been designed with state-of-the-art fire and crash safety standards.
Each rake of three coaches will also have 56 USB charging points, 24 CCTV camera including 12 giving live feed. The train would also have 36 LCD panels for infotainment.
Before commissioning for commercial operations, the train will be tested on the 1 km long test track built inside the depot for all equipments and safety features.
Agra Metro Rail Project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 7, 2020.
Two metro corridors of 29.4 km length are proposed to be constructed in Tajnagari Agra at a cost of 8379.62 crores.
