Commitment, perseverance must to savour success in music: Vice-chancellor

MYSURU: The Karnataka State Dr Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University vice-chancellor Nagesh V Bettakote on Sunday said that commitment to goals, perseverance, dedication is must for artists to savour success in music and performing arts.
Speaking after launching the 110th birth anniversary of Padma Vibhushan Gangubai Hangal held at varsity here, he said most of the artists will lose their commitment to the profession once they go after making money, taste success in their career and profession, but artists should not develop such mindset.
“Gangubai Hanagal will always stand as a shining example for her professional accomplishments and commitment to music,” he said.
He said that music has all curative powers and soothes the mind. The activities of the varsity is crippled by the cut in grants by the state government, but the students' enrolment to the varsity has increased every year. Plans have been made to introduce junior and senior courses as the government is likely to give permission for the courses, he said.
Students took part in the cultural events organised on the occasion. Disciple of Gangubai Hangal Sulabhadatta Neeralagi, Hindustani musician Nagaraj Havaldar, retired IPS officer Muddu Mohan, registrar of the varsity T S Devaraj were present at the programme.
