Colva: The South Goa District and Sessions Court Judge, Irshad Agha briefly examined the deputy superintendent of police, Sudesh Naik in the 2008 Panaji police station attack case. Naik was the police inspector when the incident occurred.
A mob allegedly led by the then Taleigao MLA Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate, his wife Jennifer, the then Panaji mayor Tony Fernandes and others had attacked the station demanding the release of some persons arrested by the Panaji police.
Revenue minister Atanasio Monserrate and his wife Jennifer were personally present in the court.
Police inspector Tushar Lotlikar, who was then a PSI at the Panaji police station, had lodged a complaint on behalf of the state. He had named above persons besides CCP councillor Uday Madkaikar, former councillors Daya Karapurkar and Naguesh Kariashetty, former Taleigao sarpanch Janu Rosario, Anthony Barreto and Godinho couple as the accused.
Subsequently, the case was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
CBI, Mumbai had charge-sheeted Monserrate couple and 34 others under Sections 143, 147, 148, 149, 153, 324, 325, 326, 332, 333, 427 and 435 of IPC and Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.
