Two dead, six wounded in shooting at Sweet 16 party in Atlanta

A shooting at an Atlanta-area house party Saturday left two people dead and six others wounded, officials said Sunday.

The violence stemmed from a confrontation at the gathering with more than 100 teenagers in attendance, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

“Information is very limited at this time,” the sheriff’s office said. “Our investigators have worked all night and are still there looking for answers. This is still a very active investigation.”

The incident took place in Douglasville, Ga., during a Sweet 16 birthday party for the daughter of the home’s owner, Atlanta news station 11 Alive reported. The gunfire erupted in a cul-de-sac, the house’s owner said.

Adults at the home ended the party early after people started smoking marijuana, according to the TV outlet. Neighbors said they witnessed wounded victims spilling onto neighboring properties, with a bullet hitting another home.

“My child is traumatized,” the mother of one person in attendance wrote on Facebook, according to local news station WSB-TV. “Her friends are traumatized. I am traumatized.”

Investigators have not released the identities or ages of the victims, nor have they named a suspect or announced any arrests. Officials also have not released an update on the conditions of the wounded victims.

Information about the events preceding the shooting was not immediately available. Authorities are asking anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward.

Douglasville is a suburb of Atlanta, located about 20 miles west of the city.
