Verizon Raises Prices on Older Cellphone Plans

Wireless carrier adds $2 per phone monthly fee as it looks to reinvigorate growth at consumer unit

Verizon Communications Inc. is raising prices on some older cellphone plans, adding $2 per phone monthly fees for customers who don’t switch to the company’s latest offerings.

The company began notifying affected customers of the rate increase last week, and a spokesman said the higher price reflects “the added cost of maintaining these legacy plans.” The company, whose consumer unit has more than 90 million postpaid devices connecting to its network, declined to say how many customers are affected.
