Sikkim ILP : JAC Hosts 1st Public Hearing On Implementation from Stakeholders

Gangtok, 6 March : The first stakeholder hearing on the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) was held at Chintan Bhawan in the capital Gangtok. The hearing was presided over by the President of the Joint Action Council (JAC), SK Pradhan. Political and non-political bodies,  individuals attended the hearing to share their views on how to proceed with the implementation of the ILP. The JAC had organized the hearing to collect opinions from everyone.

During the hearing, there were hours of brainstorming discussions, and the participants shared their ideas with the JAC. In return, the JAC considered their views and issued a joint statement. The JAC was formed by the state government as an autonomous body to investigate whether the ILP could be implemented in the state, following public demand in January.

The JAC stated that it would officially visit the North Eastern states where the ILP has been implemented. The team would study the respective state’s chronology and then submit a comprehensive report to the state government based on their observations.

On the other hand, stakeholders from the tourism industry gave their opinions on the implementation of the ILP. They stated that the ILP should be effectively implemented, but before doing so, the pros and cons need to be precisely analyzed. The tourism industry in Sikkim is a primordial entity where many educated unemployed youths and people rely on it for their livelihood. Therefore, the stakeholders opined that the implementation of ILP should not burden their business in any form.

During the hearing, developing a mobile application for ILP was also discussed. The stakeholders believed that a mobile application would be a highly beneficial tool in today’s world. It could make the process faster , accurate without any hassle.
