In a recent post made on Instagram, Microsoft co-founder and billionaire
Bill Gates can be seen taking a spin around town in the Mahindra Treo electric three-wheeler. The joyride likely took place when Gates, a classmate of
Anand Mahindra from Harvard University, visited the industrialist in India last week during a tour. The pioneers divulged that the conversation between them and their teams were not only about IT or business but more about multiplying social impact. Before we start taking the video apart, let’s take a look at the post.
In the video, the opening slide says ‘What has three-wheels, 0 emissions and makes no noise?’, before transitioning into shots of Bill Gates riding the Mahindra Treo himself around town. The post was captioned saying, “India’s passion for innovation never ceases to amaze. I drove an electric rickshaw, capable of traveling up to 131km (about 81 miles) and carrying up to 4 people. It’s inspiring seeing companies like Mahindra contribute to the decarbonization of the transportation industry.” Clearly, the discussion between Mahindra and Gates was geared towards zero carbon emissions and electric vehicles.
On the other end, Anand Mahindra too had shared a post on Twitter where the two former classmates can be seen shaking hands. Mr Mahindra even got his hands on a signed copy of the ‘How to Avoid a Climate Disaster’ a book authored by Gates in 2021. While no other details about their meet-up has been divulged up till now, it would be interesting to see if Microsoft and Mahindra join forces in order to achieve global zero-carbon emission goals.
