Airtel launches 5G Plus services in 125 more cities

“Airtel was the first in the country to offer 5G services in October 2022, and today’s mega launch is our promise to connect every Airtel customer in the country with ultra-fast Airtel 5G Plus. Our 5G rollout is on track to cover all towns and key rural areas by March 2024,” said Randeep Sekhon, CTO, Bharti Airtel.

NEW DELHI; Bharti Airtel Monday said it has undertaken its “largest ever” 5G roll out in India by launching its 5G Plus services in 125 cities and said it is on track to cover all towns and key rural areas by March 2024.

With this, Airtel’s 5G Plus service is now available in over 265 cities in the country, the telco said in a statement. Airtel is deploying a 5G non-standalone (NSA) network. By contrast, Jio’s 5G network based on the standalone (SA) mode, is available in about 300 cities.

Airtel said its 5G Plus service availability will continue to expand rapidly - including service in all towns and villages in the country soon as the telco is working towards offering nationwide coverage.

“Airtel is now offering its 5G services in every major city from the upper northern city of Jammu to the southern tip of Kanyakumari,” Airtel said.

In the last year, Airtel has demonstrated 5G capabilities with a host of use cases including India’s first live 5G network in Hyderabad, to India's first private 5G network at the Bosch facility in Bengaluru to partnering with Mahindra & Mahindra to make its Chakan manufacturing facility, India’s first 5G enabled auto manufacturing unit.

Airtel crosses 1 mn 5G subscribers in Mumbai

It said that it has 1 million unique 5G on its network in Mumbai which was one amongst the first eight cities to get Airtel 5G Plus. Earlier in the week, India's second largest telco had said that its 5G consumer base in the country had reached 10 million.
