Meghalaya governor Phagu Chauhan invites Conrad Sangma to form next govt
GUWAHATI: Meghalaya governor Phagu Chauhan on Saturday invited Conrad Sangma to form the next government in the state, which will be a coalition of three parties — NPP, BJP, and HSPDP — and independents having a combined strength of 32 in the House of 60.
“I have received the invitation from the governor to form the government. The swearing-in will take place at the Raj Bhavan at 11 am on the 7th and we are expecting the PM, home minister and other leaders at the function. The whole cabinet will be sworn-in,” Sangma said.
Chauhan also swore-in NPP legislator Timothy D Shira as the protem speaker, who will administer the oath of office and secrecy to all the newly elected legislators on Monday.
Sangma was confident that he would be able complete the new term, despite a coalition government, as smoothly as it was in last five years.
