Corporator gets anticipatory bail

Vadodara: The sessions court in the city granted Congress corporator Jaha Desai anticipatory bail on Saturday after a video of Desai abusing the cattle impounding party and an offence was registered against four people for attacking the VMC cattle impounding team.
Desai had approached the court after an offence was registered on the four people who attacked and abused a cattle impounding party in Chhani Jakatnaka area.
Four accused named in the offence registered at the Fatehgunj police station were arrested by the police and were also detained under PASA. They were granted bail in connection with the offence registered against them, but remain detained under Pasa.
Desai’s advocate Hitesh Gupta said, “We argued that Desai was not even named in the FIR registered at the Fatehgunj police. The employee who registered the offence has been working with the VMC for 20 years and Desai is a corporator for the second term. The employee would have known him well and despite this Desai was named in the offence,” he said.
Gupta added that Desai was sent a summons under section 160 of the Criminal Procedures Code for recording his statement as a witness.
“We feared that he may be implicated and arrested and hence preferred to apply for anticipatory bail,” he said adding that Desai was a corporator from the area. Desai, he said, was also not seen beating up anyone in the video.
