GURGAON: The education department has launched a 'Vidya Sahyog' programme in 44 government schools in the city to promote e-learning and enhance core competencies of students in foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) skills.
The department said this is a pilot project under the Nipun Haryana Mission, under which 'smart' classrooms will be set up in government schools to promote digital literacy. The classrooms will also be used to hold special guest lectures to expose students to the best teaching-learning practices in the country.
The programme is being implemented in two phases. In the first phase, the department will set up 'smart' classrooms with TVs and projectors in 19 Government Model Sanskriti primary schools. The remaining schools will be covered in the second phase. Both phases will conclude by the end of March.
Officials said these classrooms will be specially used for classes and sessions designed under the FLN programme. Nearly 1,400 students in these 44 schools will periodically attend an hour of specialised lectures on subjects such as English, Hindi and mathematics. The department has selected only those schools that fall in rural areas. "Under the New Education Policy (NEP)-2020, the focus of the education ministry is to equip government schools with digital infrastructure that can be leveraged to improve the quality of education," said a senior education official.
"The programme is an attempt to transform the teaching-learning ecosystem in government schools," said Manoj Lakhra, district coordinator for the Nipun Haryana mission.
