Kanpur: A 70-year-old elderly died after an e-rickshaw he was commuting was hit by a tempo near Mallapur village in Bilhaur area on the GT Road, on Saturday. Police sent the dead body for post-mortem.
Police said Sarju Nishad, a resident of Matlabpur Julaha village, was unmarried and used to stay with his sister and practise farming.
According to kin, Sarju had gone to Bilhaur to sell the mustard crop on Saturday.
The accident took place while Sarju was returning to the village from Bilhaur on an e-rickshaw, when a tempo coming from the opposite direction hit the e-rickshaw. Following the collision, the e-rickshaw overturned and Sarju was trapped under it.
The locals took Sarju out and rushed him to the CHC in an ambulance for treatment, where after examination, the doctors declared him dead.
The drivers of the auto and e-rickshaw fled from the spot. Police sent the dead body for post -mortem.
Inspector Surendra Singh said that the drivers are being searched, their vehicles have been impounded. "Action will be taken by registering a case on the basis of a complaint," Singh added.
