Tamil Nadu-based man gets 20-year jail for marrying, sexually assaulting minor
The Chamarajanagar First Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Nisharani AC on Friday sentenced a 25-year-old man to undergo 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl after forcefully marrying her.
MYSURU: The Chamarajanagar First Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Nisharani AC on Friday sentenced a 25-year-old man to undergo 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl after forcefully marrying her.
The court held prime accused Sharan Raj and his mother Selvi, his brother Shashikumar guilty of abetting crime regarding this case. The trio hail from Tiruchendur taluk of Tamil Nadu. The court also ordered 2 years of imprisonment for Sharan’s mother Selvi.
Sharanraj, who was working as an electrician befriended the survivor and lured her into marrying him in September 2018. He married her and committed the crime. The victim's parents lodged a complaint with MM Hills Police.
They filed a chargesheet against him under various provisions of Pocso, Prohibition of Child Marriage Act and IPC, according to K Yogesh, special public prosecutor at Principal District and Session Court in Chamarajanagar.
