Valuables worth Rs 15 lakh stolen in Gaya town

GAYA: Thieves committed a burglary in the house of a customs officer (posted in Jharkhand) at New Colony in Piparpanti under Kotwali police station area here on Thursday night, and decamped with cash and jewellery worth around Rs 15 lakh from the room of a tenant living in the house.
The incident came to light after tenant Ashok Prasad returned on Friday evening. He along with his family had gone to attend a wedding function outside Gaya town on Thursday. "When I returned home on Friday evening, I saw that my rooms were ransacked and valuables missing," he said, adding the house owner, Meera Kumari, had gone to Bengaluru a month ago and no one was present in the house.
Prasad lodged a complaint at Kotwali police station in which he has mentioned that the thieves stole around Rs 6 lakh cash, besides gold and silver ornaments of his wife. Kotwali SHO Baban Baitha said, "Police are trying to find out some clue from the footage of CCTV camera installed outside the house."
