Now, buying EVs becomes cheaper and easier in Uttar Pradesh
Those who have purchased an evehicle in UP after October 13, 2022 and have paid any of the fees which have been waived or subsidised in the policy will be eligible for a refund
LUCKNOW: The state government has notified the Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy 2022, making it easier and cheaper to purchase e-vehicles in the state.
The exemptions offered by the policy are in addition to the subsidies provided by the Centre on purchase of e-vehicles and will collectively reduce the cost of two-wheelers by Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 on road and cars by upto Rs 1 lakh. The policy, being implemented retrospectively from October 14, 2022, a day after it was cleared by the cabinet, makes an EV free of road tax and registration fee if it is purchased in the first three years of the policy period.
If an e-vehicle is manufactured within the state, then the waiver will be valid for five years. Those who have purchased an evehicle in UP after October 13, 2022 and have paid any of the fees which have been waived or subsidised in the policy will be eligible for a refund, as was announced in January this year.
The policy further states that a 100% tax exemption will be given on e-vehicles sold and registered in UP between October 14, 2022 and October 13, 2025. In the fourth and fifth year of the policy period, a 100% rebate will be given on EVs manufactured, sold and registered in the state.
A 15% subsidy upto a maximum of Rs 5,000 will also be given on the factory price of e-vehicles purchased in the state to the first 2 lakh units purchased, a maximum of Rs 12,000 for the first 50,000 electric three-wheelers and upto Rs 1 lakh per vehicle for the first 25,000 electric fourwheelers. A subsidy of upto Rs 20 lakh per e-bus will be given on the first 400 buses purchased in the state while the first 1,000 e-goods carriers will be given a subsidy of 10% upto a maximum of Rs 1 lakh. As per the policy, an e-vehicle refers to all automobiles which use electric motors powered by batteries, ultracapacitors or fuel cells.
