NOIDA: A 28-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl in her village in Kasna when her parents were not home.
Police said the girl knew the accused, Deepak Kumar, who lived in a rented accommodation in her neighbourhood and worked with her father at a nearby factory.
At 10.30 pm on Friday, police received a complaint from the father, saying Kumar visited their house when his daughter was alone. "The accused, who has been familiar with the family, allegedly tried to touch the girl inappropriately and raped her," said Santosh Kumar Shukla, in charge of Kasna police station.
The father, in his complaint, said the minor narrated the ordeal to her mother when she returned home. "The father said the girl was sitting in a corner and looked scared when her mother reached home. The mother asked her questions and learned about the incident," said Shukla.
Based on the complaint, cops filed an FIR under IPC Section 376(ab) (person committing an offence of rape on a woman under twelve years of age) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso).
Police also sent the girl for a medical examination and arrested Kumar from near the Government Institute of Medical Sciences. "He was produced before the court and sent to judicial custody," Shukla said.
The latest National Crime Records Bureau data released on August 29, 2022, noted nearly 1.5 lakh crimes against children in the country last year. Of this, more than one-third (53,874 ) were Pocso cases. UP reported 7,129 Pocso cases in 2022.
