Man, 59, ends life in Karnataka's Yadagiri a day after son’s death in road mishap

KALABURAGI: A 52-year-old man died by suicide by jumping into an open well at Madraki of Shahapur taluk in Yadagiri district a day after his son died in a road accident.
Sources said Basavarajanna Sammanni died by jumping into an open well on the outskirts of Madraki village in the early hours of Saturday. Basavarajanna’s son Shivakumar, 24, was killed in a road accident after his vehicle rammed into a sugarcane-laden tractor on the Bidar-Shrirangapatna highway in Shahapur taluk on Friday evening. As news of Shivakumar’s death spread, the villagers gathered outside the house to offer their condolences.
In the early morning hours, the family noticed that Basavarajanna was missing. The search for him ended when they found his footwear near the well. Alerted by the villagers, a team of police and fire personnel rushed to the spot and fished out his body around 12pm.
The bodies of Basavarajanna and his son were cremated at their field in the evening. Police have regsistered two cases in this connection.
