EC working like contract killer for rulers: Saamna

MUMBAI: The Shiv Sena (UBT) on Saturday slammed the Election Commission (EC), accusing it of working like a “contract killer for political bosses”. The party mouthpiece, Saamna, said the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on the selection of the chief election commissioner (CEC) was a favour on the Indian democracy. The Uddhav Thackeray faction said the EC was like a “reptile without a spine lying at the feet of the rulers”.
"It is unfair to put the entire Shiv Sena in the pocket of the traitors with the bow and arrow symbol just because 40 MLAs of the legislature party left. Democracy is being killed, but the poll panel has shown it is mindless and working as a contract killer for political bosses. However, everything is clear with the Supreme Court judgment. The decision-making process of the EC is corrupt and the government appoints controversial persons to the panel so that it can corrupt the decisions," the Saamna editorial said.
The Sena also referred to the BJP's loss in Pune's Kasba bypolls. "The Kasba -Chinchwad by-election was held. What picture did you see in it? The CM, the deputy CM in charge of the home department, and the cabinet camped in the constituency and the entire government machinery was used. Money was distributed using the police machinery. The EC did not take notice because all have become government servants. Against this backdrop, the SC decision is in the national interest and strengthens democracy," it said.
