The University of North Carolina’s plan for a new school for free speech put the faculty in high dudgeon and the school’s accreditor jumped to attention, promising to investigate. Now the accreditor is getting another letter of inquiry that could affect its future.

On Wednesday eight Republicans in Congress from North Carolina sent a letter to Belle Wheelan, the president of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, expressing “concern” about her recent public comments on the proposed School of Civic Life and Leadership and asking her to respond to several questions.
