JAIPUR: Search for the Ranthambore tiger, T-136 has started near the closure of cheetahs in Kuno National Park (KNP) in Madhya Pradesh, where Prime Minister
Narendra Modi had recently launched the Project Cheetah.
As per the reports, a tiger movement was recorded near the Pohri village trijunction of Shivpuri and Sheopur, nearly 25- km from the enclosure, which houses 20 cheetahs.
Divisional Forest Officer (DF/O), Kuno Prakash Kumar Verma, said, "There are reports that a Ranthambore tiger is moving in this area. Teams were sent to track the tiger and record the pugmarks. So far, the teams have not been able to trace the big cat."
The Madhya Pradesh forest department had also sent information to its Rajasthan counterparts to learn the identity of the big cat.
A senior forest official at RNP said, "The MP Forest department has shared the picture of the tiger to know its identity. All the required details and assistance was provided. After moving out of RNP, the tiger traveled a long way to reach Kuno. It had earlier ventured close to human settlements near Gangapur city, before it reached Dholpur forest." Experts said that once the tiger crosses the Chambal River, the Kuno is at a 5-km distance. The Chambal River flows in between the Kailadevi Wildlife Sanctuary (extension of Ranthambore) and the landscape of Kuno.
