BELAGAVI/UDUPI: Opposition leader Siddaramaiah claimed the Rs 6.1 crore cash found at the residence of the son of a BJP lawmaker is just the proverbial tip of government’s iceberg of corruption and claimed BJP has set “collection targets” for its ministers and chairpersons of boards and corporations.
He claimed the money collected was to be used in the upcoming assembly elections. “BJP functionaries have realized that they cannot fool people anymore with its Hindu-Muslim agenda,” Siddaramaiah told reporters in Belagavi. “Their trick of provoking Hindus against Muslims is not working.
So, they have planned to face elections on the strength of money. They have been spending crores collected through corruption.” Siddaramaiah cautioned contractors against paying bribes to secure contracts. “Once we form the government, we will review all tenders awarded prior to elections and stop all works which were secured by paying bribes,” he said.
In Udupi, Randeep Singh Surjewala, AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka, said CM Basavaraj Bommai should resign on moral grounds for “naked, blatant, and brazen corruption happening under his nose”. He also sought an inquiry by the Chief Justice of the Karnataka high court into corruption. “Our demand is clear: Arrest the BJP MLA and sack the industries minister,” Surjewala said.
