NEW DELHI: Desks with the poster “I love Manish Sisodia” came up outside several Delhi government schools on Friday. Pen and paper were supplied and children wrote letters and postcards with the message, “We love you sir, please come back”. AAP claimed more than 20,000 letters were collected in one and a half hours on the first day.
“In their letters to Manish Sisodia, who earlier held the education portfolio in the Kejriwal government, students wrote that they are studying well. They are working hard to score well and ‘Manish chacha’ need not worry about them. They said they are always with their beloved education minister. Through these letters, some of them even questioned why their ‘Manish chacha’ has been put behind bars if he hasn’t done anything wrong. He has only worked to improve the government schools of Delhi and education,” AAP stated.
While
BJP criticised AAP for using students for political gains following Sisodia’s arrest in an alleged corruption case, the party claimed parents had come up with the idea. “Here the parents collected letters from the children. Despite it being a schoolholiday, children accompanied their parents to the help desks to reach out to their favourite Manish chacha,” it added. At a school in Vasant Kunj, the three men running the desk admitted that they were party sympathisers.
Several AAP functionaries took to Twitter to highlight the drive. MLA Atishi, who will soon become a minister, tweeted,“Children’s love for their Manish chacha is growing all over Delhi; BJP people, no matter how many false allegations you make, the love of Delhi children for Manish Sisodia cannot be shaken. ”
Another MLA, Somnath Bharti, tweeted, “Today Manish Sisodia has taken the form of an idea and his ideas have reached every house through children. There are 18 lakh Manish Sisodias in Delhi schools. How will you stop it? Make an effort, no matter how many parrots you engage, the education revolution is not going to stop. ”
Astudent of Class VI wrote, “Manish Sir, you have done a lot for our better future so that we can make our country proud. We have learned to be good and responsible human beings from the Deshbhakti and Happiness classes started by you. We all are missing you a lot and want to see you again in our school. ”
