‘Homebuyers a priority’: UP CM Yogi Adityanath revives registry hopes
A seven-member team of homebuyers met the chief minister in Lucknow
NOIDA: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has assured homebuyers from Greater Noida (west) that their demands on pending registries and possession of flats will be met.
“Common people and homebuyers are a priority of this government and we will do whatever is necessary to address their problems,” the CM told a seven-member delegation of homebuyers from Greater Noida (west) who, under the banner of New Era Flat Owners Welfare Association (NEFOWA), met him in Lucknow on Friday.
The residents have been staging protests for 14 weeks every Sunday over their demands on pending registries and possession of flats.
Meanwhile, Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh raised the issue of homebuyers in the UP assembly, citing that nearly one lakh of them are looking towards the CM in the hope of a plausible solution against nearly 90 defaulter builders. He suggested that the formula which was adopted in the case of the Amrapali group can be applied in the case of homebuyers of Greater Noida (west).
Following the Supreme Court’s July 2019 order, the state-run National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) India Ltd took over the 15 projects of the Amrapali group that failed to deliver around 30,000 flats.
Shubhra Singh, secretary of NEFOWA, said, “We submitted our petition to the CM where we apprised him of our fight for the past 13 years, which is largely the result of previous governments where registry of more than one lakh houses in Greater Noida (west) has not been done to date. As a result, lakhs of people have been unable to get their homes.”
Abhishek Kumar, president of NEFOWA, said that many builders absconded and many do not want to deliver the houses. “These builders have taken full money from the homebuyers but have not cleared their dues with the authority and are absconding now. As a result, the Authority is not allowing the registry of our flats.”
Raj Kumar, vice president of NEFOWA, appealed to the CM to find a way out “so that we can get possession of our homes and find some relief from the financial burden we are facing”.
“If the authority moves forward on the same formula which was adopted in the case of the Amrapali developer, then thousands of people can get the delivery of their homes. I have suggested this to the CM,” the Jewar MLA told TOI. “If the registry of these flats starts, the government can get more than Rs 30,000 crore as revenue.”
On the occasion, NEFOWA members also offered to participate in the Clean Hindon project and help promote riverfront tourism as may be devised by the state government. Others present in the meeting were Ranjana Bhardwaj, NEFOWA vice president, and members Jyoti Jaiswal, Shipra Gupta and Mihir Gautam.
