Former Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia moves application for regular bail

NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Delhideputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on Fridaymoved an application for regular bail before the Rouse Avenue court. The court is likelyto hear the bail application onSaturday when he is scheduled to be produced before thejudge on expiry of his five-dayCBI custody.
Sisodia was arrested lastweek over alleged irregularities in the capital’s liquor excise policy. He has resignedfrom the Delhi cabinet. Sisodia was holding the charge ofas many as 18 out of 33 departments of the Delhi government, including health, finance, education and home. He moved the lower courtafter the Supreme Court refused to intervene in his case,pointing out he had sufficientlegal remedies.
On February 27, the courtof special judge MK Nagpalgranted the CBI five days of remand of Sisodia to questionhim on the alleged irregularities in the excise policy of2021-22. The court allowedthe probe agency to keep Sisodia in custody stating thathe had “failed to providesatisfactory answers”.
Adding that though Sisodia cannot be expected tomake self-incriminating statements, the court said the“interests of justice and of afair investigation requirethat he should come upwith some legitimate answersto the questions that arebeing put to him by theinvestigation officer”.
