‘Health funding in Raj among highest in India’
Jaipur: Medical and health minister Parsadi Lal Meena on Friday claimed that the state’s allocation of 7% of the total budget funds for the health sector is among the highest in the country.
Replying to a debate on demands for grants of the medical, health and medical education department in the Assembly, Meena said, “The Chief Minister Chiranjeevi Health Insurance Scheme is proving to be a boon for the common people. Raising of the insurance amount from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh in this Budget will provide much-needed relief to the people. Effective implementation of the scheme has ensured that patients with serious illnesses are covered. Now treatment has also been allowed in hospitals outside the state.”
“Around 1. 38 lakh families of the state are associated with the Chiranjeevi scheme, and it makes up 90 per cent of the state’s population. This is the highest percentage of people covered under a state insurance in the country. Since April 1, 2021, over 34.30 lakh patients have been treated by spending about Rs 3,566 crore,” added Meena. FTe House passed the demands for grants.
The proceedings were disrupted for some time after BJP MLA Ratangarh Abhinesh Maharishi’s alleged that former SMS College principal Dr Sudhir Bhandari gave him a heavy dose during the COVID-19 treatment. “He (Bhandari) wrongly injected me in place of some other patient who was seriously ill. I am still suffering the side effects of the heavy dose. I called Dr Bhandari to tell him the CM must have told him to do so as I am an Opposition MLA and should be killed,” said Maharishi. TNN
