431 aspirants vie for 134 PhD seats at Nilamber Pitamber University in Jharkhand

DALTONGANJ: As many as 431 candidates have applied for PhD entrance test at the Nilamber Pitamber University, scheduled on March 22. The test is being held after a gap of five years for 134 vacant research posts. The applications for PhD programme have been invited to 14 subjects, while five other subjects — Hindi, Urdu, Geology, Sanskrit, and Sociology — have no vacancy due to scarcity of guides.
History received the maximum of 71 applicants against 16 vacant seats, while English got 52 applications against 13 seats. Political science got 38 applications against 16 seats; while Commerce got 45 applications against five seats.
Nodal officer for the entrance test, R K Jha, said, “February 28 was the last date for submitting applications. We have received 431 applications against the 134 vacant seats. The test, to be held on March 22,will be of two-hour duration for 100 marks. There will be no negative marking. Questions will be of multiple choices, of which 50 will be subject based and 50 for research methodology.”
The head in-charge of the post-graduate department of English, NPU, Sunil Kumar Singh, said, “It will be a keen test as far as English PhD programme is concerned as 52 candidates will have to fight it out for the 13 seats. I appeal to each one to perform well.”
