Nagpur: A group of Maoists set three road construction machines on fire between Pursalgondi and Alenga in the Etapalli taluka of south Gadchiroli late in the evening on Thursday.
The latest case of arson is the second in the district within a short time span of time. Last week, Maoists set two road construction machines on fire near Birsamundi village in Bhamragarh tehsil. The contractor was also whisked away from the place but later released.
It's learnt that in the latest case, Maoists had been opposing road construction which is close to the mining site of Surjagarh. Though not part of the minining corridor, Maoists had earlier warned the contractor against continuing his work. The road is being constructed by a Nagpur-based company.
Local villagers have also been urged by Maoists to stop working at the mining sites.
SP Neelotpal said security has been stepped up.
