Witchcraft in school probed

Surat: Following reports related to some wizardry performed upon tribal girls living in hostels by a witch doctor, a team of officials from the Tribal Development Department visited a Uttar Buniyadi Vidhyalay in Madhi of Surat district on Friday to inquire, even though they did not receive any complaint whatsoever.
The team headed by Anital Naik, in-charge assistant commissioner, tribal development, visited the school and questioned the hostel and school officials as well as the girl students.
“All officials concerned of the hostel, school and even the 120 students did not report objectionable rituals being performed. They claimed that they had performed a puja at a temple before Navratri and hence were tied with a thread on the wrists,” said Naik, adding that no student or parents filed any complaint. tnn
